Yoga is a form of meditation, peace and harmony, the purification of the physical body, leading into the purification of the mind. It can be used as a form of alternative medicine and as low-impact physical exercise. Yoga morning classes in Bali Mandira are held by the new rice paddies area, under a Balinese traditional structure “Joglos” , where you can hear the melodious rhythm from the singing birds and be impressed by the surrounding tropical natural views.

We have a date with Angklung at Christmas

pratice-angklung

Lighting it up!!!!Our Mandira’s team begins to prepare for Christmas Eve Dinner a special Angklung performance. What is angklung? Angklung is an Indonesian musical instrument consisting of two, three or four bamboo tubes suspended in a bamboo frame, bound with rattan cords. Each Angklung produces a single note or chord, so several players must collaborate in order to play melodies.

Because of the collaborative nature of Angklung music, playing promotes cooperation and mutual respect among the players, along with discipline, responsibility, concentration, development of imagination and memory, as well as artistic and musical feelings.”

BHA Coastal Cleanup was a Great Success

Bali, Saturday 20 September – Bali Hotels Association (BHA) participation in the International Coastal Cleanup campaign was another great success. The initiative saw more than 70 hotels under the BHA banner gather over 1600 volunteers to clear debris from several beaches and rivers in Nusa Dua, Legian, Kuta, Seminyak, Tabanan and Ubud. Approximately 19.5km was covered and everyone involved was proud to be part of the solution to help protect Bali’s coastal strip and waterways.

BHA held a similar program last year whereby plastic bags, containers, cutlery, cans, cigarettes and household waste as well as abandoned shoes and fishing debris were just some of the 7,565 items collected. The total trash haul ended up weighing in at over 142,6 kilograms. This year even more volunteers donated their time to participate resulting in 435 bags being collected reaching 1,525 kilograms in total.

Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Clean Up has been running since 1986 and has become the world’s largest volunteer effort for ocean health. Each year millions of eco-friendly warriors from all over the globe help to clear trash from the shores of lakes, streams, rivers and oceans. Thanks to these volunteers recording every article collected, Ocean Conservancy has gained an accurate insight into the manufactured items which are impacting our planet’s health.

“Cleanups alone can’t solve the pollution problem. Nevertheless, by having a detailed index of all trashcollected provides a snapshot of what’s polluting our oceans so we can work to prevent specific items from reaching the water in the first place. We hope that this initiative will start a ripple effect. Ideally we want to encourage more people, locals and tourist alike, to assume responsibility for their daily consumption of one-time products that effectively contribute to the oceans trash problem,” commented Jean-Charles Le Coz, Vice Chairman of the Bali Hotels Association.

“It was an absolute pleasure to participate in the Bali Hotel Association’s International Coastal Cleanup 2014. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved. We look forward to an even bigger and better cleanup next year to continue raising awareness and encouraging everyone to be more conscious about their trash,” said Clinton Lovell, Director of Environment Committee for BHA.
