Angklung performance for Christmas Eve Dinner

All the members of the band are amateurs. None has ever played angklung before.

The wonderful people of Mandira have prepared for Christmas Eve Turkey Dinner a special angklung performance. But first, what is angklung? Angklung is an Indonesian musical instrument consisting of two, three or four bamboo tubes suspended in a bamboo frame, bound with rattan cords. Each Angklung produces a single note or chord, so several players must collaborate in order to play melodies.

In November 2010, angklung was confirmed by the UNESCO as world cultural heritage native to Indonesia (after batik, keris and puppets). In image, Tri Indah, our beloved secretary and one of the amateur angklung player from Bali Mandira.

Because of the collaborative nature of Angklung music, playing promotes cooperation and mutual respect among the players, along with discipline, responsibility, concentration, development of imagination and memory, as well as artistic and musical feelings.
